MILEY CYRUS' '7 THINGS' IS ABOUT NICK JONAS, DIRECTOR BRETT RATNER SEEMINGLY REVEALS

source: MTV.com

'SHE REMINDED ME A LOT OF MADONNA,' RATNER SAYS OF VMA-NOMINATED TWEEN QUEEN.

Veteran video director Brett Ratner has worked with Madonna, Mariah Carey, Diddy, Jessica Simpson, Wu-Tang Clan and many others. And he's got high praise for VMA Best New Artist nominee Miley Cyrus, whose "7 Things" clip he recently helmed.

"She reminded me a lot of Madonna," Ratner told MTV News. "And I hate saying that, but what I mean is, like Madonna, she can be hanging out and laughing, and then you put the camera on her and it's like, 'Holy sh--!' "

That effervescence actually made the simple performance video more difficult for the director. "It was the hardest video I've ever edited because every moment was great," he said. "Every moment that she was on camera, she was amazing. She's got an incredible quality about her. She gets the camera, and that's what it takes to make a great music video.

"She came out in these high-heel boots and I was going to say something to her about them," he continued, "but on her own she was like, 'I'd feel better in sneakers.' Her instincts are great. She has great charisma and personality."

He recalled discussing the video with the young star during a visit to her home, where she told him how much the song — which she co-wrote — means to her, and said that it's about an ex-boyfriend. (Cyrus told MTV News last month that much of the album is about ex-boyfriends.)

While Ratner declined to reveal who exactly that ex is, he gave away a significant detail — perhaps inadvertently — that seems to confirm the song is about Nick Jonas. Cyrus recently admitted, after months of unconfirmed speculation, that she dated Jonas for two years.

"She had me come out to her house," Ratner recalled. "She started showing me all of her personal items from under her bed that her ex-boyfriend gave her. So she pulled out his dirty socks and a bunch of photographs.

"The necklace she's wearing in the video is the necklace he gave her," he said. "She's wearing his diabetes or medical necklace."

Nick recently made himself a de facto spokesperson for awareness of the disease: Earlier this month, the group held a press conference where he said the title track to their new LP, A Little Bit Longer — for which he wrote the lyrics — is a "life song" where he addresses his affliction.

For his part, Ratner said he believes Cyrus has the talent and the attitude to make her not only a Best New Artist, but a career artist.

"She was very down to earth, and it's kind of very popular for little girls in the entertainment industry to be kind of bratty," he said. "I couldn't believe how many people wanted to visit [the video set], and I've worked with people like Mariah and Madonna. She was very gracious and she's very smart. She really knows her stuff. Look, [whether] she wins or not, I think she'll make a great transition [from being a teen star]. She's very conscientious of her persona and of the crossover."

He also pointed out what he sees as her emotional maturity, and her comfort with being a 15-year-old superstar.

"She's not, like, frustrated with where she's at," he said. "You can tell by the lyrics that they're very personal and that's how she'll make that transition. The stuff she talks about in the video is clever and emotional and fun at the same time. You can be 18 and enjoy it too."

MILEY CYRUS AND MANDY JIROUX TAKE TO YOUTUBE AGAIN--TO SAY 'GO GREEN'!

source: MTV

By: Jocelyn Vena

Miley Cyrus has once again taken her high jinks to YouTube with her pal Mandy Jiroux for the latest edition of their web series, "The Miley and Mandy Show." But this time their comedy comes with a message: Go green.

In the skit, Miley, at her Los Angeles home, urges her fur-loving, aerosol-hairspray-using pal to give up her environmentally unfriendly habits after she hears her on the phone saying, "I need some more of that aerosol can hairspray. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And I want some more of those fur coats, but I only want real fur." Miley also reminds her friend that "there's a better life on the other side" (presumably meaning the green side).

The green teen sensation notes that it might not be something that Mandy wants to hear, "especially from someone so young," but that she as well as her fans out there should learn to be better environmentalists.

"Wake Up America," Miley's new single about being good to the environment, is also featured in the video. Miley and Mandy clown around a lot during the song, but the ladies also break in and offer tips on how to lessen their impact on the environment.

"I need to tell you to go green," Cyrus says. "I'm sure our viewers would love to know how to go green."

Some tips she offers are: shopping online to cut down on driving trips (a good tip if, like many of her fans, you're not old enough to drive legally), recycling or re-gifting magazines and books to friends, and reusing plastic bottles a few times before recycling.

Clip also features Cyrus' new single, 'Wake Up America.'  Click Here to view YouTube clip.

Miley Cyrus is reportedly dating teen movie star Adam Sevani!

Miley Cyrus is dating Step Up 2 teen movie star Adam Sevani, according to Hollywood gossips.

The couple were spotted enjoying a bike ride in Hollywood together last week, and sources claim the day out was just one of many recent liaisons.

An insider tells Us Weekly magazine, "It's the early stages of dating. She is a little boy-crazy over him."

However Sevani is not the first teen star to be linked to the Disney protégé.

Last year Miley dated Nick Jonas, but the couple split only a few months later because of work commitments.

Nick is now reportedly dating Miley's Disney rival Selena Gomez.

Grilled over the ongoing rumours that she's dating Nick Jonas, Selena replied: "Well, he's an amazing guy, Ryan. Anybody would be very lucky to be dating him."

Friedman, M.D., president and chief executive officer, City of Hope. "This Concert for Hope demonstrates their commitment to improving the lives of patients with cancer and to helping create a future in which cancer is not only treatable, but curable and preventable."

The concert continues Disney and Cyrus' support of City of Hope. Last year, Disney donated $1 from every ticket sold during her highly successful "Best of Both Worlds" concert tour to cancer research at City of Hope. The concert series raised more than $1 million.

The American Cancer Society estimates that 1,437,180 people will be diagnosed with cancer in 2008, and more than 10,700 of these people will be children under the age of 15. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the highest designation bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope has achieved numerous scientific breakthroughs and pioneered many lifesaving procedures that have impacted treatment worldwide. Every day, City of Hope's team of researchers aggressively study the science behind childhood cancers to help bring new therapies to children as fast and safely as possible.

Inspired by the humanitarian principles of City of Hope, and motivated by the institution's commitment to innovative medical research and quality patient care, a group of key industry executives founded the Music and Entertainment Industry chapter in 1973. In 35 years of dedicated efforts, the chapter has grown to include all the major music labels such as Universal Music Group, Disney Music Group and Warner Bros. The industry has raised more than $69 million through benefits, promotions and partnerships to support ongoing programs at City of Hope. MILEY CYRUS SAYS SHE AND NICK JONAS WERE 'IN LOVE'

FOX NEWS

Miley Cyrus has finally admitted that she dated teen rocker Nick Jonas, saying they were "in love."

"We became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met," Cyrus, 15, says in the September issue of Seventeen magazine. "He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, 'I think you're beautiful and I really like you.' And I was like, 'Oh, my gosh, I like you so much.'"

She adds that she and 15-year-old Nick "loved each other."

"We still do, but we were in love with each other," she tells Seventeen. "For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn't fun."

After they broke up at the end of 2007, Cyrus tells Seventeen, "At first I bawled for a month straight. I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black. When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights — and so I did that, and I got myself looking great. And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, I want to make my hair black now — I don't want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core. I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, I've got to be by myself for now, and just figure out who I really am."

Cyrus doesn't rule out getting back together with the Jonas brother — though a source tells People magazine he's now dating fellow Disney Channel star Selena Gomez, 16.

"Maybe he'll be my best friend for the rest of my life or maybe I'll end up marrying Nick Jonas!" Cyrus says.

But for now, she's on her own.

"Since [the breakup], I've realized that I've met so many great guys, but I like being the girl nobody can have," she says. "No one can touch me, no one's mine. I'm myself. I think it's sexy to do your own thing."

MILEY CYRUS, JONAS BROTHERS & CHRIS BROWN LIGHT UP TEEN CHOICE AWARDS

Published by MTV News on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 1:39 pm.

By Jocelyn Vena

The Teen Choice Awards aired on Monday night and America’s reigning teen — Miley Cyrus, duh — was true to her overachieving self by not only hosting the show, but also performing her hit "7 Things" and winning three awards (for Choice TV Actress, Comedy; Choice TV Show, Comedy; and Choice Music Female Artist). Not bad!

Not surprisingly, high school was a pre-eminent theme of the night, as teen soap "Gossip Girl" walked away with six surfboards, including Choice TV Show, Drama and TV Breakout Show.

"Gossip Girl" wasn’t the only big winner: Teen dreams the Jonas Brothers surfed away with six awards as well, including a jointly shared Male Hottie Award.

And let’s not forget that fellow teen sensation Chris Brown won four awards, including Choice Hook-Up (Let’s be clear: it was for his duet with Jordin Sparks, not his much-rumored real-life hookup with Rihanna).

And of course there was a winner declared in the M&M Cru/ACDC dance battle! Although everyone gave it their best, Miley and the M&M Cru were proclaimed winners — which is exactly what ACDC’s Adam Sevani knew would happen when he went up against Miley.

MTV News was on the red carpet before the show (check out the hot photos right here!) and we caught up with just about everybody, from the Jonas Brothers — who told us how excited they are about their VMA nomination and performance — Chris Brown — who promises he’s going gangsta in his forthcoming movie "Heist" — Danity Kane, Lauren Conrad and loads more! We’ll be rolling out this material starting today, so keep your eyes peeled!

Hannah Montana New CD Breakout - Miley Cyrus

Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus

 Miley Cyrus Breakout CD

Miley Cyrus promised her new album would be more grown-up -- it's the kind of talk that sets off alarm bells when you're a 15-year-old tween idol coming off a controversial, bare-backed Vanity Fair photo shoot.

She's already got a raspy, middle-aged rocker chick's voice; would she suddenly try to live up to it with more provocative material?

A clue to the answer comes in "Breakout's" opening verse, a harangue against life's cruelest inequities: ''Every week's the same/Stuck in school's so lame/My parents say that I'm lazy/Getting up at 8 a.m.'s crazy/Tired of bein' told what to do/So unfair, so uncool.''

With that, a sigh of parental relief is heard across the land: Our little girl isn't growing up. Phew.

"Breakout's" best tunes let Cyrus be feisty without graduating to Avril-like levels of petulance: ''Full Circle,'' ''The Driveway,'' and the single ''7 Things,'' which veers from sensitive breakup song in the strummy verses to punky-pop kiss-off in the double-time choruses.

Here, her demands for repentance are amusingly age-appropriate: ''Your sincere apology...when you mean it, I'll believe it/If you text it, I'll delete it.'' U go, grl.

After all this fun, "Breakout's" second half gets overly ballad-heavy -- guess that's where the growing up factors in -- although, impressively, she's a dead ringer for the Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines on the mournful ''These Four Walls.''

And then we discover the one clunker, ''Wake Up America'' -- Cyrus' eco-anthem, on which she pleads for the earth: ''Can you give her a little attention?''

Get your own copy of the new Miley Cyrus CD Breakout.
