If You have a daughter under the age of 15, chances are you've not only heard of Miley Cyrus but have contributed large sums to the multi-million dollar Hannah Montana franchise which is obsessing girls around the globe.
Now meet the real Miley Cyrus, a 16-year-old on a fast-track to an adult celebrity life, a girl who already longs for a place where she doesn't have to wear make-up, where she can learn to drive without fear of being hit by a paparazzi car and where random strangers don't drop to their knees and propose. And all she really wants in life is her chapstick.
You seem to be very respectful to all your fans. How do you keep them all happy?
It's hard 'cause you have to find a balance between keeping everyone happy and also keeping yourself safe, because there's so many people. It's good when you're out and about and there's maybe 10 or 12 people who you want to take a picture with. But not when there becomes 20, 30, 40 people and you're getting lost and you're alone or you're trying to drive, which in my case is sometimes really hard with paparazzi or fans following. You have to make sure you find the balance, you know, it's important to make your fans happy but also really important to stay safe.
What would you say is the most memorable way a fan has tried to catch your attention?
There's a lot. I've been proposed to a few times. You would freak if you saw some of the signs they make sometimes, big flashing signs. It's crazy but it's pretty cool.
Do you find it cool or do you find it a bit . . .?
I think they're very creative. It's crazy how creative people get. I'm like, I don't know if I ever loved a star that much, to go through and buy them a ring and everything.
What's the most romantic thing that anyone's ever done for you?
Maybe when I went and I wanted to learn to skateboard, someone took me to go skateboard with Tony Hawk. I never skated once I got there but it was still cool.
What about travel? What's been your best holiday destination?
I think it's anywhere where you can escape, you know, where not a lot of people are. I went to Los Cabo in Mexico with my mum and I loved that, it was so much fun. We had a good time just me and my mum.
Could you be alone there?
Yeah, we were totally alone, we were very secluded which was great. I think that's the best part about vacation is just not having to put make-up on, not having to look great, like I can just do whatever.
What do you always bring in your hand luggage when you travel?
I'm like chapstick-obsessed so always have chapstick. I hate it when my lips get dry, especially on the plane my lips get terribly dry.
You must do an awful lot of travelling? How do you entertain yourself? Do you watch films?
I cannot watch movies on planes. I don't know what it is. Movies I have to get lost in, then you don't realise how long you've been sitting there watching the movie, and then you look up and see 400 more hours until your destination. And then you're like, 'Oh my gosh, this movie is forever, you know'. I'm no good at that so I try to sleep as much as possible. So I get to catch up on my sleep and I'll read sometimes.
Do you pamper yourself? Do you do spa treatments or massages?
I can't do massages 'cause I can't lie still. I talk the whole time. And everyone's like they want me to be quiet. So I'm not good at massages. So I think just playing my guitar is more a way I like to just relax.
What does it take for you to relax?
Just music. Just like lying on my bed, listening to music, that's my favourite thing. That's why I like plane rides 'cause I can just sit there and listen to all my music.
What constitutes a good party? If you threw a party for your friends what would you cook, if you cook?
Any type of food. I like pizza a lot and I found out while I was in Spain that I like eggs and french fries mixed. It's a specialty over there, I guess, and it's good.
So you'd cook that at your party?
Yeah, I'm not a good cook honestly. I make breakfast so any time you want breakfast I'm down for it, but anything else I'm no good.
What music would you dance to at a party?
I'm like a ginormous Beatles fan so that's my favourite stuff. I like chilling around and playing old Johnny Cash songs and old John Lennon songs . . . it's all good.
Do you have a favourite John Lennon song?
Well, Imagine is my favourite but I feel like it's a little cliched to say that you know, so Jealous Guy is my favourite. Yeah, he's amazing.
Have you chosen everything you're wearing today or do you get someone in who does that?
I have my friend with me who basically just brings a bunch of stuff. We get to pull it out as we go and put outfits together. But most of the time I kind of go through and pick out what I like and put it together. But it's better than having to keep all the stuff with you, for red carpets and stuff I need her to help me.
Do you buy designer stuff? Where do you go shopping?
I like to mix it. My favourite store in London is Top Shop, I like that you can get kind of more funky things and the prices are very like a wide range. You can get things in there that are like 300 bucks and you can get things in there that are like $8, so I like that it has a wide range.
So do you look at prices when you go shopping?
Yes. Everyone laughs 'cause I'm like the cheapest person when it comes to shopping, but then there'll be days where I'm, like: 'I love this, I love this, I love this'. Then I look at the price tag and am just whatever. But I'm pretty good at like picking it but I am pretty cheap.
What are your top beauty tips?
I think just like being natural and having confidence, you know. When I'm not working I don't like a lot of make-up or being very done up. I think just be very natural. Chapstick is my main thing but usually I don't wear make-up. I don't like the way it feels. I feel like I have a mask. You can't move.
What sort of qualities should a best friend have?
Honesty and trust . . . It's hard to find people you can trust. I probably only have four or five people who I would fully trust. You know, who would be there for me and tell the truth about me and to me.
